Cox Masden was declared Missing in Action during recon of Balikpapan after a bombing raid on 8 Jun 1945 in Brunei Bay, Borneo. Two days later on the 10th of June, the Commanding Officer of UDT 11 received a message from the principal Beach Master CTG 78.1 that his body had been recovered.
